Three major legislative initiatives are underway for the 2013 session of the Connecticut General Assembly to enhance parents’ rights, while ensuring child protection.

PSYCHOLOGICAL EVALUATIONS
Our office succeeded in ensuring fair psychological evaluations for persons in Juvenile Court, independent of DCF control.
CHILD SUPPORT AFTER TERMINATION OF PARENTAL RIGHTS
Our office succeeded in helping this bill to be defeated. Parents will not be required to pay child support after their parental rights have been terminated.
LIVING TRUSTS
Our office is advising persons, as a public service, to be very careful with their money if they are considering purchasing a living trust.
SCHOOL BULLYING
Our office is advising parents that they can get results if their child is being bullied at school.
MINI-MIRANDA RIGHTS FOR PARENTS
Our office has helped to pass a bill requiring DCF to advise parents of their rights before the interview starts. This may be the first of its kind in the nation.
Grandparent task force
Atty. Agranoff was appointed to a State task force to recommend legislation to enhance visitation rights for grandparents.
DCF ANNOUNCES COMPLIANCE WITH MINI-MIRANDA WARNINGS.
DCF formally published its compliance with the Mini-Miranda law. The parents’ rights brochure will be updated to include warnings to adults prior to DCF interviews.
